While my own critique of the Smarter Balanced Common Core tests for mathematics is written from the perspective of a mathematics education professional, many other education professionals with different perspectives share the belief that “relentless” high-stakes school testing has been a disaster for public education. The op-ed posted in the March 16 edition of the Hartford Courant by Connecticut Education Association President, Sheila Cohen, is an excellent example.
